Commission heads to Chicago for annual AAAS
The European Commission is attending the annual American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in Chicago, United States.
Rudolf Strohmeier, deputy director-general for Research and Innovation in the European Commission is leading the EU’s delegation to the event entitled ‘Meeting Global Challenges: Discovery and Innovation’ in the State of Illinois.
Strohmeier will be joined by European Research Council president Professor Jean-Pierre Bourguignon who will participate in a number of panel debates, including public policy. Six researchers supported by Marie-Skłodowska Curie Actions will also present their research at two symposia. The ERC will organise a workshop together with MSCAs and Euraxess Links USA.
In addition, a number of JRC-focused events will take place during the five-day conference.
The AAAS is the world’s largest general scientific society, and publisher of the journal, Science. The AAAS annual meeting brings together a broad spectrum of several thousand attendees, who choose the sessions according to their professional profiles. The association was founded in 1848, and includes some 261 affiliated societies and academies of science, serving 10 million individuals.
