Americans learn about H2020 opportunities

Entrepreneurs, scientists, innovators and funders have met at Philadelphia University Science Center in Pennsylvania, United States, to discuss opportunities in Horizon 2020.

Over 40 participants were welcomed by US Congressman Chaka Fattah and the audience listened to presentations on the research and innovation activities that will be open to US scientists and businesses in Horizon 2020. Speaking at the meeting, Dr Ruxandra Draghia-Akli, director of the Health in DG Research of the European Commission, outlined the rationale, structure and themes of the next research and innovation framework programme, as well as specific opportunities in the health and life sciences sectors that will help strengthen the Greater Philadelphia region.

Also attending the seminar was Dr Karen Kozarsk, vice president of research and development at RegenX Biosciences based in Washington, DC, who provided insights into the experiences the research laboratory had when working in a European-funded collaborative project.

Similar awareness-raising seminars are set to take place at several venues in the United States before the end of 2013, including the 2013 Neuroscience conference in San Diego and the ‘Destination Europe’ meeting in San Francisco.
