US state to benefit from H2020 neuroscience funding

A long-standing US Congressman is set to announce a scientific partnership between the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the EU.

It’s expected that Representative Chaka Fattah will announce a new partnership between the Philadelphia research centres and Horizon 2020 that will see the American institutes and the University of Pennsylvania gain access to money under the EU’s next research and innovation funding programme. The scientific collaboration is expected to focus on neuroscience research.

Speaking to The Daily Pennsylvanian, the Congressman said: “What we’re going to be rolling out to an audience of innovators and the university community and laboratory leaders in our region is laying out the opportunity for real partnerships with the EU on these projects.”

Fattah is seen as a key advocate for science investment in Congress and cited brain research as a top priority for federal government scientific investment. The Representative is the top democratic member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies in the House of Representatives which oversees funding for the US National Science Foundation and other research agencies.

The United States received €36.4m of EU research funding under FP7.
