June meeting sees budget and blue economy votes

MEPs will be addressed by the president of the European Research Council at the next meeting of the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy.

Jean-Pierre Bourguignon will speak to parliamentarians about Horizon 2020 in the afternoon of the one-day meeting on 16 June 2015 in Brussels.

ITRE committee members will also vote on key pieces of the legislative agenda, notably ‘Untapping the potential of research and innovation in the blue economy to create jobs and growth’ and a mandate for trialogue negotiations on the 2016 EU budget.

The votes will be followed by discussions on the committee’s priorities for next year’s budget, including an exchange of views with the general rapporteur for the budget, José Manuel Fernandes MEP. There will also be the consideration of a draft opinion ahead of climate talks in Paris later this year.

The afternoon session of the meeting includes the consideration of a draft report entitled ‘Developing a sustainable European Industry of base metals’.

The ITRE committee have also announced that the following meeting will take place on 15-16 July 2015.
