EIT ICT Labs opens new node in London

EIT ICT Labs has taken another step in announcing the establishment of a London node, extending the full scope of EIT ICT Labs activities into the UK for the first time. The new node expands the current network in Berlin, Eindhoven, Helsinki, Paris, Stockholm, and Trento.

The founding partners of the London node include BT, IBM, Intel, the University of Edinburgh and Vodafone. These organisations, along with others, will work alongside the existing EIT ICT Labs partners, including global ICT companies and ICT research centres, and universities that hold a leading position in ICT.

The London node offers the opportunity to work with major UK-based ICT organisations on the innovation challenges as addressed by EIT ICT Labs. It will also look to provide an opportunity to engage with the very vibrant ICT-based ecosystem around London. While the London node partners are interested in a wide range of EIT ICT Labs activities, there is a clear focus on technologies that can address the challenges of efficient management of city infrastructures.

Willem Jonker, chief executive of EIT ICT Labs, said: “I am very happy to have London established as a full EIT ICT Labs node. The UK ICT ecosystem is an important extension of our overall ecosystem and will further strengthen the pan-European innovation impact of EIT ICT Labs.”

Each EIT ICT Labs node operates a physical Co-location Centre as its base for activities. In London, this will be located at Imperial West, Imperial College London’s new research campus development.
