European Maritime Day – DG RTD session

The European Commission Directorate General for Research and Innovation is hosting a thematic session on 20 May in Bremen, Germany, titled ‘Ocean technologies: an investment for sustainability’ to mark European Maritime Day.

This year’s European Maritime Day will focus on ‘Innovation driving Blue Growth’. The session will feature a discussion forum on ways to enhance European marine and maritime leadership through innovation and research.

It will present examples that the Commission says “can contribute to unlocking the innovation potential of the seas and oceans in a sustainable way”. The event will also be the place to identify innovation challenges and to demonstrate the ocean technologies’ innovation and growth potential for multiple ‘Blue Growth’ sectors and for the benefit of society. Stakeholders’ workshops featuring European research projects will also take place.

Several EU projects, such as ECO2, MICROB3, BONUS and Sea for Society, will take part in the exhibition. European Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Maria Damanaki, will present  awards to the winners in each of the 14 countries participating in the MARLISCO project video competition.
