Commission announces general product safety JA call

The European Commission has launched a call on a non-food product safety joint action (JA).

The €2.5m call, entitled ‘Joint Action – general product safety directive’, includes one topic, namely ‘Joint Action to consolidate and enhance product safety through effective market surveillance throughout the Union’.

According to the Commission, the JA aims to ‘improve the effective application of Directive 2001/95/EC on General Product Safety through co-operation between national authorities responsible for the assessment, market surveillance and enforcement of the safety of non-food consumer products and services’.

The call is open until 9 September and is funded under the EU’s Consumer Programme. JAs are part funded by EU member states or third countries that are participating; public bodies may also contribute money.
